These specialized connective tissue cells maintain the skin’s extracellular matrix by producing collagen (types I & III) and elastin, providing strength, elasticity, and resilience. They drive wound healing, skin repair, and homeostasis.
In labs, fibroblast cell lines support research in skin biology, cosmetics, wound healing, and regenerative medicine. With aging, their activity declines, reducing collagen and causing wrinkles and sagging. Healthy fibroblasts = healthy, youthful skin.
